Jesus, Forgiveness, Healing, Grace, Mercy, Redemption are all words that are associated with Christianity but the understanding of them is being lost today's world.
The Historical Jesus
There is no doubt that there was a 'Historical Jesus' who lived and walked around Israel as a human being some 2,000 years ago. The Bible and other Christian writings are not the only source of information about him.
The Jewish historian Josephus who was born in 37 AD describes Jesus and those who followed him by writing - There was about this time, Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works - a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews, and many of the Gentiles. He was the Christ; and when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men among us, had condemned him to the cross, those that lived with him at first did not forsake him, for he appeared to them alive again the third day, as the divine prophets had foretold, these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him; and the tribe of Christians so named after him, are not extinct at this day.
If we had further verifiable and detailed written accounts about everything Jesus did and said then we could build up a complete picture of him. Unfortunately these are not available and we have to make good with what we have and form our own version of who we think he was.
