Jesus, Forgiveness, Healing, Grace, Mercy, Redemption are all words that are associated with Christianity but the understanding of them is being lost today's world.
Three Versions of Jesus
There are many versions of who people think Jesus was, we shall discus three of them here. There is the ‘Historic Jesus’ ‘The Jesus we would like him to be' and, most importantly, ‘The real Jesus’
But before we explore each of these in turn, first read this - He was born in a stable, in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. From there He travelled less than 200 miles. He never wrote a book or held an official position. He did none of the things that are usually associated with greatness. He became a nomadic preacher and eventually popular opinion turned against him. He was betrayed by a close friend, and His other friends ran away. He was unjustly condemned to death and crucified on a cross among common thieves on a hill overlooking the town rubbish dump. When He died he was laid in a borrowed grave. Since then twenty centuries have come and gone, empires have risen and fallen, mighty armies have marched, and powerful rulers have reigned. And yet no one has affected mankind as much as He. He is still the central figure of the human race. Like it or not, He is the Messiah, the Son of God, JESUS CHRIST.
The Good News is that although he really did die on that first day (Friday) he then went to the place that all those who had died up to that time were waiting. He rescued many from that place and then rose from the dead on the third day (Sunday) and appeared to many of his followers. Then after a few weeks he ascended to heaven to be with his Father leaving a promise that one day he will return to Earth again.
Meanwhile we all live in a ‘age between ages’ where each of us will eventually die. Before we do I’m suggesting that we each need to somehow work out why we are born and what is the purpose of our existence. It would be a sad thing indeed to die without knowing why we are here in the first place.
