Jesus, Forgiveness, Healing, Grace, Mercy, Redemption are all words that are associated with Christianity but the understanding of them is being lost today's world.
The Problem with Religion
Time has shown that all normal humans have a common inbuilt and instinctive desire to be loved. Those who believe in God extend this need to be loved by their God, or to at least be approved of by their God. From this, because they become aware of their failures to be successful in keeping to their particular God's Laws, they then enter into some sort of 'gaining worthiness' behaviour. In this they never succeed because nobody can define where the pass mark for 'worthiness' is. Thus, an inner happiness becomes impossible because they are slaves to a system where it is impossible to win.
Some people settle for a 'self-righteous' compromise where they judge their worthiness by comparison with other people and become satisfied with their own performance as long are there are others 'out there' who are worse than they are. In this respect 'Second Hand Christianity' no different than all the other Religious options.
The problem with Rules that have to be followed is that they are no help in themselves, they are no better than a Speed Limit that only reminds those who are breaking it that they are doing so.
