Jesus, Forgiveness, Healing, Grace, Mercy, Redemption are all words that are associated with Christianity but the understanding of them is being lost today's world.
Immunisation
It has often been said that the problem with Christianity is not that it’s ‘been tried and found wanting’ but rather that ‘its never been tried properly!’. My understanding of this is that many people have had a taste of Christianity, perhaps during school days, and maybe in this have had an unfavourable experience that has caused them to turn away from the Church. Unfortunately, sometimes these bad experiences are traumatic and in some cases have been know to be caused by clerical abuse. I’m not alone in regretting wholeheartedly that such things have happened and must add here that I never try to defend such instances, they are a disgrace to the love and goodness that Jesus preached and need to be exposed and punished for the evil that they represent.
Such instances of misuse of authority and lack of love can act in a similar way to how a Doctor can immunise us against illness - the bad experience or a taste of ‘so called’ Christianity, then keeps the real thing away. What we all really need is a Firsthand Supernatural experience of God’s presence and love in our lives through a personal meeting with Jesus -something this Web site is leading too.
Although I was never personally exposed to such wrongs as a child the ‘Not tried properly’ was my own experience in less dramatic ways until I was 46 years old. Having initially turned away from the Church in my teens, I then returned as a married man and became a regular Sunday Church attendee with my family for the next 23 years as, what I’ve since become to understand as being, a ‘Secondhand Christian’. Then in 1984, at an open air meeting listening to Billy Graham, I had a Firsthand encounter of God’s love, forgiveness and acceptance and my life has not been the same since.
So what I’m referring to above as ‘Immunisation’ is one of the ‘Stoppers’ that prevents many people from looking seriously at Christianity. They do not understand the incompleteness of a Christianity that is presented only as a Religion (rules and regulations), and the difference between First and Secondhand Christianity. They have never experienced the ‘Real’ thing along with a personal assurance of God’s love.
